Piano Recitals: Why They Are Great For Everyone!
Written by Aimee McGrath, Soul Creative Digital Marketing
I had the pleasure of supporting my client and friend, Ms. Cheryl Dubberly, as she hosted her first in-person piano recital in years. I was excited to attend to take pictures and videos of the event held at a beautiful retirement community in Deerwood, in Jacksonville, on Sunday, May 19.
First, let me tell you about Ms. Cheryl. She is unassuming, talented, kind-hearted and dedicated to her craft. You’ve gotten to know a bit about her from visiting the website or perhaps your child (or you) take lessons from Ms. Cheryl. She cares so deeply for all of her students and she just lights up when she talks about them. We met at a networking event and she approached me about building her a website for her new business. She spoke passionately about her love for travel, for music, specifically the piano and gained a place in my heart during ou first meeting.
As a retiree from her full-time job, she was hoping to build a piano lesson business where she could offer both online and in-person lessons a few days a week. We collaborated on the vision for the website and ease of use for her parents and students was of paramount concern. She just cares so deeply about them.
When I arrived at the recital I was impressed by the number of people who were in the audience. It was comprised of mostly parents and family members but also by members of the living facility where it was held. The sheer number of people in the room was unnerving for me but it didn’t seem to shake the students or Ms. Cheryl, where with the confidence she instills in them, we were treated to a wonderful performance.
There were students of all ages and varying degrees of skill. I was impressed to see that the siblings were taking lessons in the afternoon, and their mom Summer takes lessons with Ms. Cheryl as well and she performed as you can see in the video. It was the perfect combination of smiles, claps, cheers, and love for these students and for Ms. Cheryl who pulled it all together. She also hosted an online recital later that evening for her online students.
I saw families having a great time together excitedly watching their child or family member perform. I saw little girls getting flowers for their performances, thinking maybe this was the first time they’d ever gotten flowers from their parents and how special that was. I saw children who love their teacher, Ms. Cheryl, and how much they look up to her. It was a beautiful day and the students were treated to an ice cream social afterward where Ms. Cheryl chatted cheerily with everyone.
Takeaways… it’s never too late to learn a new skill, which was exactly what Summer (the Mom who performed) shared along with her deep appreciation for Ms. Cheryl. Another takeaway was that the children were gaining confidence through the recital preparation and were poised and excited on recital day. Learning the piano at any age is such a gift.
Thank you to Cheryl Dubberly for entrusting Soul Creative with building your website and creating your videos. I know how excited you will all be to share it with others who couldn’t be there on the 19th.
Congratulations to all the participants and check out the video page for some of the online student performances, and be sure to check back as we add more!
